BRICS Policy Center among the world’s best Think Tanks for the sixth consecutive year

The BRICS Policy Center (BPC) once again stands out among the best Think Tanks in the world, according to the annual report prepared by the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. The Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2016 aims to recognize the important contributions and global trends perpetrated by Think Tanks. The ranking process takes place through the shared definition of public policy research, analysis and engagement of organizations.

Of the 89 Brazilian Think Tanks that appear in the report, BPC has the best positions in categories like “Top Think Tank of Science and Technology”, “Best Idea or Paradigm Developed by a Think Tank”, “Best Conference Performed by a Think Tank” , “Best Think Tank Network”, “Best Transdisciplinary Research Program”, “Best Use of Social Media and Network” and, finally, as the only Brazilian representative, “Best Think Tanks Affiliated to Universities“.

According to the General Supervisor of the BPC, Prof. Paulo Esteves, the fact that the Center is the only Brazilian Think Tank present in the Top 10 of “Best Think Tanks Affiliated to Universities” is relevant given its very nature:

“Our think tank is at the same time a space for research oriented to the analysis and proposition of policies, but it is also a teaching-learning environment. At BPC, undergraduate and graduate students learn by doing. It is through conducting research, producing analyzes, organizing political dialogues that our students develop skills and competencies that will have consequences in their professional lives, “comments Prof. Esteves.

Administered by the Institute of International Relations (IRI) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the City Preference, BPC is dedicated to studies on the countries that make up the BRICS grouping (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa ) and other emerging powers. International conflict mediation, international development cooperation, city studies and socio-environmental issues are some of the thematic axes developed in their research.

The BPC stands out as Top 30 in the Best Think Tank ranking in South and Central America and remains in the best regional positions in the categories “Best Think Tank Network“, which considers the ability of a Think Tank to expand, mobilize and nourish its networkeficiently, “Best Transdisciplinary Research Program“, where the Center is able to bring together academics from different disciplines to create conceptual, theoretical and methodological innovations that respond to the demand for knowledge production, “Best Idea or Paradigm Developed by a Think Tank “, Showing the BPC’s ability to create new ideas and solid paradigms, including thought-forms and user-friendly methodologies,” Best Conference held by a Think Tank “, recognizing the quality of the conferences held by the Center and, finally,” Better use of Social Media and Network “.

The goal of a Think Tank is to build bridges between society and public policy managers as it proposes to analyze government policies, find innovative solutions to solve their impasses, and foster academic knowledge and theoretical debates.

On the 10th anniversary of the report, the Global Think Tank Index Report evaluated 6,498 think tanks that seek to close the gap between the production of scientific knowledge and the construction of public policies around the world.

We thank PUC-Rio and its Institute of International Relations, the City of Rio de Janeiro, our partners and the BRICS Policy Center team.
