Rede Jean Monnet | Crisis – Equity – Democracy for Europe and Latin America
Vulnerabilities and inequalities are accentuated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic in Latin America, through economic, racial and gender factors. The continent is one of the most affected in terms of deaths and economic difficulties resulting from the drop in commodity prices. In parallel, some countries such as Chile and Uruguay have high rates of vaccination and successful containment measures. Most are part of multilateral consortia for access to vaccines, however, in the debate about breaking patents, we see the absence of Brazilian support for the proposal raised by India and South Africa. These facts reveal the inconsistency of an effective regional response, which will be presented and debated by Jorge Bermudez, doctor and researcher at Fiocruz.
On September 3, at noon (Rio/GMT-3), the Jean Monnet Network and BPC invite you to the webinar “Regional responses to the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe and Latin America”.
