What are the G20 Tracks?

The G20 is an economic forum that brings together 19 countries and the European and African Union and operates in two parallel tracks, the Sherpas Track and the Finance Track. Within each track, there are also Working Groups (WG).

Sherpas Track: Discusses the items that make up the summit’s agenda and is made up of 15 working groups, two task forces and an Initiative. This group takes its name from the ethnic group from the mountainous region of Nepal, which in Tibetan means “people of the east”. It is they who guide the climbers who aim to reach the top of Mount Everest.

Finance Track: Deals with strategic macroeconomic issues and is made up of seven technical groups, as well as three task forces.

For these leaders, policy briefs are delivered, the research-based documents that are produced by researchers such as those from the BRICS Policy Center.
