URGENT – Venue Change: Dialogue: Space, Sovereignty, and Resistance: Critical Dialogues from the Global South
We would like to inform that today’s event, on the 26th at 4:00 p.m., will take place at IRI: PUC-Rio Campus, Gávea, Vila dos Diretórios, Department of International Relations.
Organized by GSUM – Global South Unit of Mediation, part of the BRICS Policy Center | PUC-Rio, this dialogue aims to foster a critical discussion on violence, space, sovereignty, and resistance, drawing on experiences and perspectives from the Global South.
Drawing on contemporary struggles in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and North Africa, the event will bring together discussions on urbicide, borders, coloniality, resistance, and political futures. The discussions will explore how forms of violence cut across not only bodies but also territories, the infrastructures of collective life, and possibilities for political existence.
The event will feature Azadeh Sobout (Queen’s University Belfast). Azadeh Sobout is a postdoctoral researcher at Queen’s University Belfast. She is an Iranian activist, writer, and educator whose career is rooted in more than a decade of organizing and activism around struggles for refugee justice, indigenous sovereignty, Palestinian liberation, and feminist, anti-racist, anti-imperialist, and anti-capitalist futures.
Zaynab El Bernoussi (The Africa Institute / Global Studies University, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates) will also participate, discussing sovereignty, borders, and power dynamics from the perspective of the Beirut School of Critical Security Studies and critical approaches to resistance in the Global South.
Moderated by Andréa Gill, President of ABRI—Brazilian Association of International Relations—and professor at UFRJ.
