THE SUCCESS OF GSUM WINTER SCHOOL’S CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

It is with great pleasure that the Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM) announces the success of its third edition of the Winter School’s call for applications. We have received 29 applications from outstanding candidates, highly qualified academics, graduate and post graduate students, and practitioners, of over 10 different nationalities. Applications came from all the different regions of the Global South and from the rest of the World (please check the graphs below).

 

We have received applications from the following countries: Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, India, South Korea and Ukraine.

 

 

The GSUM Winter School is a two-week intensive academic and training program on conflict resolution and international mediation taking place in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Students will have the opportunity to explore issues and experiences concerning specifically the Global South. The courses are conducted by renowned specialists, eminent scholars and practitioners.

 

For those who have not applied, but wish to participate in the discussions on international mediation organized by the School, the GSUM offers three roundtables open to the public, reflecting on the following topics:

 

– “The Integration of Human Rights and Conflict Resolutions”July 14th, 2016, 18:00 at the BRICS Policy Center; with the discussants Andrea Hoffmann (IRI PUC-Rio), Carolina de Campos Melo (Law School PUC-Rio), Oliver Richmond (University of Manchester), Claudia Fuentes (GSUM | IRI PUC-Rio) and Maira Siman (GSUM | IRI PUC-Rio) as chair.

– “Conflict Resolution and Mediation in Latin America”, July 19th, 2016, 18:00 at the BRICS Policy Center; with the discussants Graciela Tapia (UN DPA); Pablo Lumerman (ACCESS); Edward ‘Ed’ Kaufman (University of Maryland), and Claudia Fuentes (GSUM | IRI PUC-Rio) as chair.

– “Conflict Resolution and Disarmament”, July 21st, 2016, 18:00 at the BRICS Policy Center; with the discussants Denise Garcia (Northeastern University), Robert Muggah (Instituto Igarapé), Ignacio Cano (UERJ), Monica Herz (GSUM | IRI/PUC-Rio) and Jana Tabak (GSUM | IRI/PUC-Rio) as chair.
