The BRICS Policy Center receives visit from the Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

The BRICS Policy Center received on Friday, June 16, the visit of the Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Soledad García Muñoz. In the Meeting, articulated by ABRI (Brazilian Association of International Relations) in partnership with the Washington Brazil Office, researchers reported the situation of indigenous populations in Mato Grosso do Sul, of the narcogarimpo, besides having subsidized the Rapporteur with analyses on the severity of the hunger situation in Brazil, and issues related to menstrual dignity. The meeting also included the presence of researchers from the Cátedra Sérgio Vieira de Melo, an academic forum for the promotion of refugee rights, who reported on the situation of the migrant population in Brazil, especially black migrants in Santa Catarina, and the working conditions analogous to slavery found in Rio de Janeiro. The Rapporteur visited Brazil from June 10 to 17, 2023, passing through São Paulo, Brasília, Salvador, and Rio de Janeiro. In her visits, she had agendas with activists, social movements, and NGOs, as well as visiting communities and public institutions.
