The BRICS Policy Center (BPC/PUC-Rio) participated, on July 6th, in the event “BRICS+ After the Expansion – From Economic Platform to Emerging Political Bloc? The Western Response in a Changing World Order”, held at King’s College London

Marta Fernández, Director of BPC/PUC-Rio, participated as a discussant alongside Mulugeta G. Sisay (Policy Studies Institute, Ethiopia) in a discussion regarding the implications of the BRICS+ expansion, its growing political dimension, and the challenges facing the group in transforming the international order.

The opening address was delivered by Lord Jim O’Neill—the economist who coined the acronym BRIC in 2001—who offered reflections on the group’s evolution and its role in the contemporary international landscape.

In addition to the public event, Marta Fernández took part in a closed-door dialogue bringing together experts, researchers, and government representatives to discuss the challenges and prospects for BRICS+ amidst profound transformations in global governance.

The event was organized by researchers from King’s College London, with support from the Global Engagement Fund of King’s Social Science & Public Policy.
