BRICS Climate Ambition: China

Part of the research project on the climate ambition of the BRICS countries, carried out by the Socio-Environmental Platform of the BRICS Policy Center with the support of the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), this study is dedicated to an analysis of the climate ambition of the People’s Republic of China.
China plays a crucial role in global environmental and climate governance, both for its material relevance and for its historical and symbolic impact. With a territory of around 9.6 million km², China is the third largest country in the world by area and has significant ecological diversity, including vast ecosystems of forests, grasslands and deserts, as well as being home to several endemic species.
