BRICS Policy Center / PUC-Rio holds the event “Space, Sovereignty, and Resistance: Critical Dialogues from the Global South”
On June 26, we held the event “Space, Sovereignty, and Resistance: Critical Dialogues from the Global South,” organized by the BPC research group—the Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM)—featuring Azadeh Sobout, a postdoctoral researcher at Queen’s University Belfast, and Zaynab El Bernoussi, of The Africa Institute and Global Studies University and a BPC fellow. The session was moderated by Andréa Gill, president of the Brazilian International Relations Association (ABRI), a professor at UFRJ, and a collaborating researcher with GSUM/BPC.
The discussions explored how forms of violence currently present in the international arena affect bodies, territories, and the infrastructures of collective life and political existence. Cases such as those of Palestine, Iran, and Lebanon were addressed. Furthermore, the situation at the borders between Morocco and Spain was discussed as another humanitarian crisis constituted within the international sphere.
The event concluded with moving socio-political discussions regarding the resistance of peoples and cultures subjected to violence, supported by the active participation of the audience.
