BRICS Policy Center meets with representatives of the New Development Bank (NDB)

During the afternoon of April 17th, the Director of BRICS Policy Center, Dr. Ana Garcia, welcomed Mr. Ashwani K. Muthoo, Mr. Izidoro Tokarski Jr. and Ms. Jaqueline Rabelo, members of the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the New Development Bank (NDB). This meeting is set in a context of Project Performance Evaluations (PPAs) concerning the renewable energy and associated transmission fields on Brazilian soil. In particular, the projects resulting from the disbursement made by the NDB to the BNDES for renewable energy in Bahia, Minas Gerais and Pernambuco are being evaluated. The relationship between the think tank and the bank is such that the research and projects developed at the BRICS Policy Center can provide findings and recommendations for future work supported by the NDB.

Besides the introductory character of the meeting, highlighted by an initial understanding of the parties about their respective work, it produced a desire for further discussions between the BRICS Policy Center and the New Development Bank (NDB). Based on the research work and activities of the BRICS Policy Center, Prof. Ana Garcia emphasized the challenges for the implementation of infrastructure and energy projects based on sustainable development, with participation of local populations and guarantee of their rights. The publications of the BPC’s research program LACID, which analyze the dynamics of development financing by multilateral public banks, were highlighted.
