BPC participates in the Advisory Council of the 22nd IOPD Conference

On November 7, the Director of the BRICS Policy Center, Marta Fernández, mediated the panel “Inclusion and Diversity” as a member of the Advisory Board of the 22nd Conference of the IOPD – International Observatory for Participatory Democracy. The panel was made up of Flavie Boukhennoufa – Deputy Mayor of Rennes (France), Luis Newton – Mayor of Estrela (Portugal), Alexandre Almeida – Mayor of Paredes (Portugal), Nelly Patricia Ouassenan – Deputy Mayor of Cocody (Ivory Coast), Samuel Verdeja Ruiz – Mayor of Ocoyoacac (Mexico), Esmênia Miranda – Deputy Mayor of São Luís (Brazil) and Kátia Lima, General Coordinator for Planning and Participatory Budgeting at the Federal Government’s National Secretariat for Social Participation (Brazil). The International Observatory of Participatory Democracy (IOPD) is a network of more than 1,000 cities around the world, in which municipalities and other local and regional governments, together with civil society organizations and research centers, are partnering to develop, implement and disseminate experiences on participatory and deliberative democracy at local level in a perspective of international cooperation and solidarity.
