Short Bio:
Bia Albernaz is an international humanitarian worker and researcher specialized in peace and conflict studies and human rights, with a focus on protection of civilians in armed conflict, especially in the context of UN Peacekeeping operations.
Having done her BA in International Relations at PUC-Rio, she completed her MA studies in Peace and Conflict Studies at Uppsala University, and currently is working on a study on the participation of civilian women in peacekeeping and special political missions. Bia participated in the UN Mission in Colombia, worked with humanitarian crisis management at the UNICEF headquarters in New York, with UNHCR in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, at the global headquarters of UN-Habitat in Nairobi and with an international NGO in the Protection of Civilian Sites in South Sudan during the current civil war.
During her time at the BPC, she has participated in MA-level courses where she shared with the students how the Protection of Civilians agenda is implemented in practice, of an international workshop and is preparing a Policy Brief on peace operations and peace agreements.
