EVENT “NUTRITION FOR GROWTH” DEBATES THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY FOOD HABITS TO FIGHT HUNGER AND OBESITY

On August 4th the Director of the BRICS Policy Center, Professor Paulo Esteves, and researcher Geovana Zoccal attended the event “Nutrition for Growth”. The initiative arose from the scope of the “Scaling Up Nutrition” movement, and had its first summit realized during the London Olympics. It was organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom (UKDFID) and Japanese government, that will host the third edition of the event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Apart from the Brazilian Health Minister, the debate had the participation of the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)Dr. Margaret Chan and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), José Graziano da Silva, that highlighted the importance of healthy food habits in order to fight hunger and obesity in a world where bad nutrition is the cause of death of 45% of the 6 million children that die before the age of 5.
