Digital Health
Digital health has strengthened in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by the technologization and digitalization of health services, where algorithms and data play a central role in the management and analysis of health conditions. This process facilitates surveillance and monitoring of individuals while also raising complex questions about privacy and the ethical use of personal information. Universal coverage and equitable access to healthcare, fundamental principles of public policies in the BRICS, come into tension with neoliberal market logic, which views health as a profitable commodity. The growing commodification of life deepens inequalities and barriers to healthcare access, while digital platforms and data-based health systems that rely on private data frequently operate without effective regulation.
