Marta Fernández, director of the BRICS Policy Center at PUC-Rio, wrote an article for the Global Times, a Chinese English-language newspaper affiliated with the People’s Daily, entitled “Rebuilding Trust in a Changing World Order.”

In the text, the author analyzes the current conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran as part of a broader dispute over the configuration of the international order, marked by tensions typical of periods of systemic transition. She observes a shift from diplomacy to coercion, with the increasing use of sanctions, economic pressure, and unilateral interventions.

The director argues that this scenario contributes to the weakening of multilateralism and the erosion of trust in international institutions, while simultaneously increasing global instability in areas such as energy, trade, and finance.

In this context, the article also highlights the emergence of voices, both in the Global North and South, advocating for a return to diplomacy, cooperation, and respect for international law as paths to conflict resolution.

Finally, the professor highlights the importance of initiatives aimed at rebuilding trust between states and strengthening a more inclusive international order, based on multilateralism and collective action.
