The director of the BRICS Policy Center/PUC-Rio and professor at PUC-Rio, Marta Fernández, delivered the lecture “BRICS and the Decolonization of Global Governance” at an event held on March 11, 2026, by the European Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in partnership with the Europe-BRICS Center.

The lecture discussed the challenges of decolonizing global governance and the role of the BRICS in this process, highlighting that international institutions have historically been structured by inequalities inherited from colonialism.

The presentation also addressed the potential of the BRICS as a space for political pluralism and the construction of new forms of international cooperation, with greater participation of countries in the Global South in global decision-making processes.

Following the lecture, Russian researchers participated in the debate, discussing the transformations of the international order, the challenges of global governance, and the role of the BRICS in these processes.
