Carlos Frederico Coelho, a researcher at BPC/PUC-Rio and professor at IRI/PUC-Rio, gave an interview to GloboNews to analyze the State of the Union address given by the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump.

According to the professor, the speech marks the beginning of the dynamics of the US legislative elections, scheduled for the coming months, and served as a strategy to define the government’s political narrative. The speech devoted greater attention to domestic policy, emphasizing economic indicators and immigration, which are central themes for the electorate, while addressing foreign policy in a more vague way.

Furthermore, the researcher highlighted the use of symbolic elements, such as the presence of the US hockey team, gold medalists at the 2026 Winter Olympics, during the session, mobilized to reinforce patriotism and the slogan “Make America Great Again”. According to him, the moment is delicate, since measures such as the imposition of tariffs and immigration policies have impacted the president’s popularity and provoked debates within the Republican Party itself, influencing the beginning of the electoral race in the United States.
