Ana Saggioro Garcia, professor at UFRRJ and researcher at the BRICS Policy Center/PUC-Rio, delivered the public lecture “From economic cooperation to the construction of multipolarity,” held during the 1st BRICS People’s Summit.

In her speech, she outlined a historical overview of the group’s formation and emphasized the importance of a critical analysis of its role and objectives. According to her, the BRICS should not be limited to traditional geopolitical logic nor to a simple dispute between states as a way to confront US hegemony.

She pointed to four main strategic fronts in this regard: the creation of de-dollarization mechanisms; strengthening value chains in the Global South, expanding alliances beyond China; development of joint defense systems; And finally, investment in proprietary technologies, ensuring that these actions strengthen the sovereignty of the countries involved and improve the living conditions of the populations.
