BPC/PUC-Rio director, Marta Fernández, gave an interview to People’s Daily

In an interview on the topic “Reforming and improving global governance to maintain international justice and equity,” Professor and Director of BPC/PUC-Rio Marta Fernández showed that the global governance initiative must be understood in light of recent transformations in the international order, marked by armed conflicts and the crisis of multilateralism.

For her, this proposal must align with the efforts of countries in the Global South for a more just, inclusive, and equitable order, especially given the disproportionate influence wielded by countries like the United States in international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Furthermore, the Director recalled that, in 2024, Brazil and China jointly launched the “Friends of Peace” initiative at the United Nations, aiming to demonstrate through actions that dialogue is the only viable path to conflict resolution. This commitment to dialogue and cooperation is also at the heart of four major international initiatives, including the Global Governance Initiative and the Global Civilizations Initiative. Finally, the Director emphasized that the combination of these initiatives can strengthen intercultural dialogue, revitalize traditionally marginalized cultures, and inspire innovative solutions for more balanced and sustainable development worldwide.
