11th edition of Café com BRICS

The 11th edition of Café com BRICS, an event organized by the BRICS Policy Center’s Socioenvironmental Platform, took place on September 11th at the João XXIII Cultural Center. This year, we gathered for a conversation about pathways to climate justice financing, from the BRICS to COP30.

For this conversation, we were joined by Marcela Vecchione, professor and researcher at the Center for Advanced Amazonian Studies at UFPA, and Sergio Chaparro, international policy and advocacy leader at the Tax Justice Network and international coordinator of Dejusticia.

During the debate, Marcela presented an overview of climate finance under the Paris Agreement, while Sergio brought the perspective of the new United Nations Convention on International Taxation. Both emphasized how climate justice can be a connecting point between the two conventions.

In dialogue with the audience, the guests reflected on what is needed to promote climate justice financing, how we can redefine the participation of territories, Indigenous peoples, and traditional communities in this discussion, and also what the role of the BRICS could be in this debate.
