BPC researcher and UFRRJ professor Ana Saggioro Garcia gave an interview to Rádio Câmara about the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum.
For Rádio Câmara’s 15 minutes of Citizenship program, BRICS Policy Center researcher Ana Garcia spoke about the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which took place between June 3rd and 5th. She explained that the BRICS demand is that international financial institutions, such as the IMF, should be reformed to match the distribution of power within the international system, so that regional powers like Brazil have the corresponding voting power within the Fund. In addition, she showed that with the expansion to the Middle East, and the debate on the use of local currencies to the detriment of the dollar, the BRICS has risen to greater weight in the International System. Finally, she pointed out that the summits have opened up space for social participation, the result of demands from civil society, with the aim of democratizing international policy debates.
