Researchers from the BRICS Policy Center wrote an article for The Conversation Brasil, entitled: “BRICS: Brazil holds a leadership position in times of multiple global crises.”

The directors of the BRICS Policy Center, Maria Elena Rodriguez and Marta Fernandez, along with research assistant Renan Canellas, authored another article in the series in partnership with The Conversation Brasil. In this article, our experts reflected on Brazil’s fundamental role in the construction and consolidation of BRICS. However, they also pointed out that the scenario for holding the Summit this year is full of challenges.

In a world of polycrises, such as armed conflicts, international economic instability, and trade wars, BRICS emerges as an alternative for multilateral dialogue, with an emphasis on building a multipolar order. In this context, they highlighted several key issues that will guide Brazil’s approach to the Summit this year: multilateralism and democratization of the Security Council; climate change and AI; cooperation in health and inequality. Therefore, in light of these concerns, the institutional strengthening of BRICS has become one of the six priorities defined by the Brazilian presidency, which has advocated for a disciplined expansion of the bloc, guided by clear parameters.
