BRICS Policy Center and CPDA/UFRRJ held Roundtable “Iran in the BRICS” with Ashkhen Gevorgyan

On April 11, the research group on the Political Economy of South-South Relations at the BRICS Policy Center, along with CPDA/UFRRJ, hosted the roundtable discussion “Iran in the BRICS”, featuring Ashkhen Gevorgyan from the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

The event was moderated by Professor Ana Saggioro Garcia, coordinator of the research group. In her introduction, she emphasized that the BRICS have undergone significant changes since the Johannesburg Summit held in 2023, when the expansion of the group was announced. According to the professor, the admission of new countries into the bloc has transformed the global geopolitical landscape.

During her talk, Ashkhen addressed key aspects of Iran, such as the country’s political regime, which incorporates religious elements into its republic, and the structure of its Armed Forces, divided between the Regular Army and the Revolutionary Guard. She also discussed women’s rights and their role in Iranian society, regional and geopolitical dynamics involving the country, and, finally, Iran’s expectations regarding its entry into the BRICS.
