On April 9, BRICS Policy Center researcher Carlos Frederico Coelho participated in journalist Miriam Leitão’s program, alongside Ambassador José Alfredo Graça Lima, to discuss the United States’ strategy of imposing tariffs and the potential short-term consequences of this measure.
During his appearance, Carlos Frederico stated that the approach adopted by Donald Trump has weakened the global standing of the United States and fostered the emergence of new economic blocs. He further emphasized that this strategy—driven by an obsession with the trade deficit—is widely perceived as irrational and poses risks to the global economy, including rising inflation, declining investment, and, in some cases, economic recession.
