Inequality is one of the central themes for Brazil at the G20 meeting, which will take place in November in Rio de Janeiro, and it is also the topic that drives the article by researchers Marta Fernández and Paulo Esteves, from the BRICS Policy Center. 

Entitled “Inequality at the heart of the agenda of Brazil’s G20 presidency”, the article states that the issue is transversal in Brazil’s agenda, and arises through three priority axes defined by the government: the fight against hunger and poverty, the promotion of sustainable development and the reform of global governance. The text was published in the Adenauer Notebook, G20 edition.

The researchers also analyze how inequality underpins post-World War II institutions, and that colonialism is a central pillar for understanding it in the structure of liberal international governance. It is from this context that the demands of the countries of the “Global South” within the G20 are understood.

The Adenauer Notebooks are produced by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and bring together articles by renowned researchers. In this edition, ten chapters have been put together, the themes of which are the main issues of the G20 Summit.
