The Association of BRICS+ Cities and Municipalities was officially established in June 2024

Around 200 representatives of municipal entities, including mayors, deputy mayors, directors of municipal associations and local government authorities from the BRICS+ countries, met in Kasan to exchange experiences and innovative solutions in the pursuit of sustainable city development, which contributes to the process of repositioning cities and municipalities as strategic players on the global stage.

The association aims to foster dialog between cities and the development of horizontal links between them based on close cooperation in various areas – economy, culture and education to ecology, waste treatment and tourism.

The presidency will rotate, with each country taking over for a period of one year. The first president will be the mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin.
