The Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM) is a platform dedicated to research, teaching and learning about peacebuilding and conflict transformation. Founded in 2013 as an initiative of the Institute of International Relations – IRI (PUC-Rio), through the BRICS Policy Center, GSUM focuses on activities such as international negotiations, mediation and peace operations.

The GSUM is a space for academics, diplomats, government authorities and non-governmental agents with an interest in promoting peace. Through research, seminars, publications and training. Its work is based on innovative practices and positive achievements, and it plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue and promoting international cooperation to address the challenges related to peace and security, with an emphasis on the Global South.
