Democracy, Environment, Indigenous and Human Rights, and Security in Latin America

On June 2nd, the eve of the International Day of the Environment, the BRICS Policy Center hosted the roundtable “Democracy, Environment, Indigenous and Human Rights, and Security in Latin America”. The event included the online participation of Ecuadorian Kichwa leader Yaku Pérez (Movimento Somos Agua) and the presence of Franciscan anthropologist Moema Miranda (Churches and Mining Network of the CNBB), anthropologist Antonio Carlos de Souza Lima (UFRJ), researcher Sônia Correa (ABIA), professor Thiago Rodrigues (UFF) and state deputy Professor Josemar (PSOL). The debate was moderated by journalist Claudia Antunes (Sumaúma).

The event stood out for the richness and multiplicity of issues debated, such as the war on drugs, anti-gender policies, ways to combat the extreme right and violence against indigenous peoples in land demarcation processes.
