‘Voices from the South’ newsletter presents analysis on Chinese investments in Brazil and South Africa
The February edition of the newsletter Voices from the South, published by the Karibu Foundation, partner of the BRICS Policy Center in the research project “The political economy of South-South relations: a comparative analysis of China’s investments in Brazil and South Africa”, is now available.
In the newsletter, IRI/PUC-Rio professor and BPC director Ana Garcia describes the initial findings of the project, and presents an analysis that observes how South-South investments do not necessarily provide an alternative for the conditions of workers, communities, and the environment when operating within a logic of accumulation – on the contrary, these investments can reproduce pre-existing hierarchies in countries of the Global South.
