Launch of the book “Post-conflict Colombia and the global circulation of military expertise”, by Manuela Trindade Viana (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana).
Event held on November 21st, 5:00 pm, at the IRI2 Auditorium (Rua Marquês de São Vicente, 232).
On November 21st, Dr. Manuela Trindade Viana, author of the book Post-conflict Colombia and the global circulation of military expertise, received guests at IRI / PUC-Rio for a debate on themes associated with militarization, conflict, civil-military relations and the Colombian context. Among the guests for the debate were Professors Monica Herz and Maira Siman. Both acted in the presentation of the basic elements of the book, as well as in the survey of questions and comments answered by the author. Themes discussed included democracy and parallels with cases such as Brazil.
Manuela Trindade highlighted that her book, based on the Colombian experience, goes far beyond the analysis restricted to the Colombian case. Initially, she reported her access to the subject of study in her academic training. She also listed the reasons why the Colombian case is usually perceived as a successful experience in terms of post-conflict stabilization, problematizing these reasons. The event’s speech also went through the process of writing the book, demonstrating the concern to merge important theoretical and conceptual bases, strong documentary research, and analysis of the Colombian case.
