The Brazilian government doesn’t know, or prefers to ignore signs of collapse amid pandemic
In an article published by Estadão newspaper, Monica Herz and Paulo Esteves, professors at the Institute of International Relations at PUC-Rio and researchers at the BRICS Policy Center, discuss how the Bolsonaro government does not know, or prefers to ignore, the signs of collapse of the hospital system and the social risks in the midst of the pandemic. For them, Bolsonaro’s government is marked by idiocracy, that is, a political regime that recognizes nothing but the private, destroying public instances of deliberation, provision of public goods, and critical reflection.
