
The researchers from the BRICS Policy Center published the third article in partnership with The Conversation Brazil, entitled “How does BRICS operate in decentralized global governance?”
The BPC Directors, Maria Elena Rodriguez, Marta Fernandez, and researcher Renan Canellas, discuss in this article BRICS’s role in decentralized global governance, highlighting the group’s growing coordination on issues such as climate change and the geopolitical dynamics among its members. They point out that the gap between economic influence and institutional decision-making power is a sensitive topic, especially for China, since the current governance structure favors developed countries, particularly the United States. For this reason, the group is increasingly coordinating among themselves, with the creation of the NDB and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement (CRA), but also in Multilateral Forums such as the G20, with the historic Troika composed of India, Brazil, and South Africa. And, for the first time, the BRICS countries are expected to publish a specific declaration on climate change, directly aligning with the COP30 agenda.
