The Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM) is pleased to publish the translation of the text “Systems of Conflictivity” (Sistemas de Conflitividade), originally released in December 2023 in the Virtual Encyclopedia, a project linked to the network Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace and Conflict Studies.
The translated text, part of the celebrations of GSUM’s 10th anniversary, advances debates aimed at rethinking Peace and Conflict Studies through postcolonial and decolonial perspectives, particularly in light of Brazilian contexts. The proposed reflection centers on the concept of “systems of conflictivity,” which challenges the clear distinctions between peace and war, normality and violence present in dominant imaginaries of political and social theories.
The translation initiative resulted from the event “Postcolonial Hierarchies in Conflict and Violence Studies: A Perspective from ‘Systems of Conflictivity’”, held on October 18, 2024, at IRI. The event featured contributions from Professor Andréa Gill and one of the coordinators of the Virtual Encyclopedia project, Professor Viviana García-Pinzón (ABI-Freiburg).
GSUM’s 10th anniversary activities were supported by FAPERJ (Call for Support to Emerging Research Groups in the State of Rio de Janeiro).
