Marta Fernández, director of the BRICS Policy Center/PUC-Rio, gave an interview to the Humanitas Unisinos Institute, titled: The trade war serves as a metaphor to explain the economic policy of the Trump era.

In the article, the researcher points out that there is a strategy behind Donald Trump’s trade war, however confused or disorderly it may seem. She explains that the BRICS countries are targets of this offensive because the group calls for an alternative international order, based on multipolarity. However, under Trumpism, there is no formulation of an alternative or project for a new world order. The adopted strategy is to provoke and manage chaos, forcing tariffs on unequal bilateral relations.
