The Director of the BRICS Policy Center (PUC-Rio), Marta Fernández, and the Deputy Director, Maria Elena Rodríguez, published the article “Dethroning the “Dollar King”: the BRICS and the Global South on the move” on the Latinoamérica 21 website. The article was republished in La Revista of Costa Rica and El Universo of Ecuador. This text is part of a collaboration between the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI) and Latinoamérica 21 to promote the Voces de Mujeres Iberoamericanas platform.
In the article, the researchers explain the importance of the virtual meeting held earlier this month between the BRICS member countries and the four documents approved during the July Summit in Rio de Janeiro: the final declaration and three thematic declarations in the areas of health, digital governance, and climate finance. For the experts, these documents reaffirm Brazil’s position on the international stage and demonstrate that the country is driving a multilateral agenda focused on cooperation, reducing inequalities, and global governance.
