The director of the BRICS Policy Center, Marta Fernández, wrote an article for Boll Brasil entitled “Brazil and China: building convergence in the G20 process”.
In this article, she elucidated some issues related to the China-Brazil relationship, including China’s engagement in multilateral negotiation spaces, such as the BRICS and the G20, with a view to expanding the New Silk Road, for example. She also addressed Brazil’s choice to distance itself from the geopolitical dichotomy between the US and China, avoiding a more rigid alignment and maintaining its autonomy and voice in world affairs.

Fernández also highlighted the Sino-Brazilian alliance in the fight against hunger and in tackling global tax inequality. She also commented on the impact of the US elections, saying that the result “promises to further intensify the policy of decoupling the economies of the United States and China by escalating tariffs on imports from both sides. […] This policy runs counter to the priorities of Brazil and, to some degree, China in the G20 and BRICS, as it has the potential to erect new walls, hatreds and disconnections around the world.”
