The director of the BRICS Policy Center (BPC) at PUC-Rio, Marta Fernández, gave an interview to the newspaper O Globo about the Iran War and how it impacts the future of BRICS.
In her analysis, the professor highlights that the current conflict scenario tends to deepen existing internal divergences within the group, especially given its recent expansion and the increasing complexity of geopolitical dynamics among its members.
Furthermore, she emphasizes that the current context may favor the strategic interests of the United States by widening internal divisions within BRICS and hindering the advancement of common agendas, such as economic and financial cooperation initiatives.
Finally, she points out that the war may weaken, in the short term, the bloc’s coordination capacity, while also highlighting the limits of its ability to act in crises directly involving member countries.
