With the annual BRICS summit scheduled for July 6 and 7 in Brazil, the leaders will discuss topics such as the pursuit of a new world order and climate challenges, against the backdrop of growing global tensions. According to Professor Maureen, the debate on climate finance is crucial. She points out that this type of financing is often associated solely with mitigation and adaptation, which distances the topic from the realities experienced by civil society, Indigenous peoples, and traditional communities. In her view, resources must be directed toward combating inequality and ensuring climate justice, especially benefiting those most affected by the environmental crisis.
