The BRICS Policy Center’s Socio-Environmental Platform was present at the seminar “Strengthening the Global South’s Climate Agenda: Recommendations for the G20 and BRICS+”.
The BRICS Policy Center’s Socio-Environmental Platform attended the seminar “Strengthening the Global South’s Climate Agenda: Recommendations for the G20 and BRICS+” organized by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) in conjunction with the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea). The event was attended by academic researchers, civil society representatives and government members from the G20 countries. Maria Beatriz Mello, assistant researcher at the Socio-Environmental Platform, represented the BPC at the meeting in Brasilia, at Ipea’s headquarters.
The seminar took place on April 8 and 9, with the aim of strengthening voices from the Global South on the climate and just transition agenda, focusing on knowledge exchanges on the just transition between Brazil and South Africa in the context of BRICS+, the G20 and the UNFCCC. Ana Toni, Secretary for Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and Ivan Oliveira, Undersecretary for Financing Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Finance, attended the event and highlighted the importance of climate finance for implementing climate and sustainability goals, promoting a just energy and economic transition, and generating development in the countries of the South.
