Researchers from the BRICS Policy Center actively participate in the Working Groups of the BRICS People’s Civil Forum 2025, which takes place in the context of Brazil’s BRICS presidency. Maureen Santos contributes to the Ecology Working Group. In the Finance Working Group, Ana Garcia and Paulo Esteves take part. In the Artificial Intelligence Working Group, Isabel Siqueira and Luísa Lobato share their insights. Meanwhile, in the BRICS and Institutionality Working Group, Marta Fernández, Maria Elena Rodriguez, and Sergio Veloso strengthen the discussions.
The main objective of the BRICS People’s Civil Forum is to promote dialogue and cooperation in the search for joint solutions to global and regional challenges. The Forum aims to strengthen the participation of popular movements and civil society in policymaking and the promotion of sustainable development in BRICS countries and beyond. During the debates, various social actors present contributions that result in position papers, which are then forwarded to the heads of state for consideration in the final declaration of the BRICS Annual Summit.
The creation of this Council was advocated in the final declaration of the BRICS Civil Forum, held in Moscow in July 2024, and endorsed by BRICS leaders in the Kazan Declaration. We continue to contribute to a plural and transformative dialogue.
