Researchers Carlos Frederico Coelho and Paulo Esteves from the BRICS Policy Center at PUC-Rio published a joint article in the newspaper Valor Econômico: “The US and Venezuela: consequences for Brazil and the global order.”

The article analyzes how the US invasion of Venezuela signals a turning point in the regional and international order, highlighting the US willingness to resort to the unilateral and coercive use of force to resolve political impasses. For Latin America, the measure reintroduces the direct use of force as a legitimate option, weakening regional mechanisms and relativizing principles such as sovereignty and non-intervention.
