Researcher Ana Garcia, from BPC/PUC-Rio and Professor at UFRRJ, gave an interview to the newspaper ICL Notícias about the future of Venezuela after the US invasion. According to the expert, the justifications presented by Washington are weak, since the central objective would be the control of Venezuelan strategic resources, such as oil and minerals, in addition to preventing China’s access to these riches.
The researcher also analyzes Itamaraty’s response, pointing to the emptying of Brazil’s political presence in Latin America after the weakening of regional integration initiatives promoted in the early 2000s, such as Unasur. Given this scenario, Garcia believes that Brazil’s position tends to remain in the rhetorical field and defends the resumption of regional articulation as an alternative.
