Scientific and Technological Cooperation for the Development of the BRICS: the case of the CBERS program
This Policy Brief aims to provide inputs for the expansion and consolidation of ST&I cooperation among the BRICS countries, as a way to overcome the constraints imposed by developed countries in the transfer of advanced technologies to developing ones. Considering the importance of ST&I in the processes of social and economic development, the strengthening of South-South relations between the BRICS, especially in terms of scientific and technological cooperation, presents itself as a promising strategy for those country’s further development. We argue that the Sino- Brazilian Satellite Terrestrial Resources Satellites (CBERS) program can serve as an exemplary experience in this regard. On the other hand, however, such program has yet to overcome issues related to technology transfer restrictions, which in this case have been imposed by China.
