Convergence Dialogue: Joint Statement T20-C20
The planet faces multiple, overlapping crises arising from climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as significant setbacks in global efforts to combat poverty and hunger. Additionally, there are urgent challenges posed by digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), growing financing gaps for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), debt in the Global South, slow global governance reforms, and an unfair international tax system.
The international financial architecture, established after the Second World War, has been ineffective in presenting solutions to these contemporary challenges. Originally designed by and for developed countries, international organizations inadequately address climate change, social inequality, and systemic crises, failing to address needs arising from climate risks, geopolitical tensions, income and wealth disparities, and gender and racial biases.
