Plataforma Socioambiental, Instituto Clima e Sociedade and the Heinrich Böll Foundation held the Sixth Edition of Coffee with BRICS
The 6th edition of Café com BRICS was a success! The event, organized by the Socio-Environmental Platform of the BPC, with the support of the Climate and Society Institute (iCS) and the Heinrich Böll Foundation Brazil, featured Camila Amigo, Caroline Boletta de Oliveira, Isabelle Fernandes Caon, Maria Beatriz Peixoto Mello, and Priscilla Papagiannis, who presented an updated version of the study on the “Climate Ambitions of BRICS Countries.”
The conversation was led by coordinators and researchers Maureen Santos and Paula Sandrin, highlighting the importance of understanding the advances and challenges of the climate goals of BRICS countries, especially in the current context of global changes. The updated data study addressed how Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa are managing their respective responsibilities and climate commitments, such as the submission of revised NDCs, considering their socioeconomic and environmental realities.
The event also brought reflections on how these climate ambitions impact the international landscape and the internal policies of BRICS countries, reinforcing the need for cooperation among nations to tackle the climate crisis more effectively. Their ambitions, policies, and climate actions are essential for meeting the goals established by the Paris Agreement, the study asserts.
