
Sonia Corrêa
Sonia Corrêa is a feminist. Since the 1970s, she has researched and acted politically in the fields of health, women’s rights, gender and sexuality. In the 1990s, she accompanied United Nations negotiations that had a direct impact on issues related to gender and sexuality, such as the International Conference on Population and Development and the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. In 2006, she coordinated the group that drew up the Yogyakarta Principles for the Application of International Human Rights Standards in relation to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Since 2002, with Richard Parker, she has coordinated the Sexuality Policy Watch program, the Observatory of Sexuality and Politics, based at the Brazilian Interdisciplinary AIDS Association. She has lectured occasionally at various academic institutions and was a visiting researcher at the Gender Department of the LSE (2016-2017). Since 2017 she has dedicated herself mainly to researching anti-gender policies with a special focus on Latin America. She has taught at various academic institutions and is the editor of the Global Queer Politics series (Palgrave).
