
José Graziano
José Graziano da Silva, an agronomist by training and PhD in economics, is a retired full professor at Unicamp’s Institute of Economics. He held the position of regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean between 2006 and 2011 and was later elected director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for two terms between 2012/19. With over 30 years of knowledge related to food and nutrition security and rural development, he coordinated the formulation and implementation of the Zero Hunger Program in Brazil. He was the Extraordinary Minister for Food Security and Combating Hunger in the first government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2003.In 2022 he was awarded the Grand Prix of the 7th Niigata International Food Award Foundation.In 2024 he received the title of Professor Emeritus at UNICAMP.He is currently the Director General of the Zero Hunger Institute.
