Key points of the 15th BRICS Summit; new members and the creation of the common currency: Interview by Ana Garcia for the CGTN newspaper
On August 21, Ana Garcia, professor and general coordinator of the BRICS Policy Center, gave an interview to the Chinese newspaper CGTN about the two main key points of the 15th BRICS Summit: the accession of new members and the creation of a common currency. Regarding the expansion of the bloc, Garcia anticipates a positive signal from the member countries and says that the selection criteria will be debated later. For her, the bloc acts as a kind of magnet for countries affected by the policies of the Western powers. Regarding the common currency, the professor explains that it is an important project, which seeks to reduce dependence on the dollar, and explains the possible ways of achieving this.
