Collateral Damage from Trump’s Tariffs: What’s at Stake?

On November 7, at 3:00 p.m., the BRICS Policy Center (BPC) of PUC-Rio will host Professor Wing Thye Woo, University Chair Professor at the China Economy Research Institute of Liaoning University (Shenyang, China). Professor Woo is also a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Davis, a Distinguished Fellow at the Penang Institute, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong, the University of Malaya, Fudan University, and the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

His current research focuses on efficient and equitable pathways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on green finance, the middle-income trap, decarbonization, biodiversity protection, and the global economic architecture in a multipolar world. His work primarily concerns the economies of China, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Professor Woo, offering the Chinese perspective, will be joined by Carlos Frederico Coelho, Professor at the Institute of International Relations (IRI/PUC-Rio) and researcher at the BRICS Policy Center, who will address the Brazilian perspective, to discuss the tariffs imposed by the United States during the Trump administration and their impacts on global economic dynamics.

The discussion will be moderated by BPC/PUC-Rio Director, Professor Marta Fernández.
