Carlos Frederico Coelho, researcher at the BRICS Policy Center at PUC-Rio, spoke to Valor Econômico about the tariff imposed by the U.S. on Brazil.

Carlos Frederico, professor at the Institute of International Relations at PUC-Rio and researcher at the BRICS Policy Center (BPC/PUC-Rio), gave an interview to Valor Econômico newspaper about the impacts of the recent 50% tariff imposed by the United States on products from emerging countries.

According to the researcher, “in the short term, everyone will suffer,” even if Brazil manages to redirect its markets, especially in sectors like coffee and beef, which were not exempt from the additional tariff. However, he emphasizes that the country can take advantage of the current scenario to strengthen its trade ties with Asian countries beyond China, as a strategy for diversification and economic resilience.
